Melanie Ribbe – Miami Beach

October 30, 2012

I confess… it’s been six months since my last post. This behavior is not acceptable and defies the oath I took when I created my site. Needless to say, it won’t happen again! While it’s horrible how much I’ve neglected my blog due to an influx of shooting and retouching,  there is a silver lining… I’ve accrued a ton of new content which I will be publishing on the regular.

Let’s start with the stunning Melanie Ribbe from Wilhelmina Miami wearing swimwear by Cia Maritima. Melanie is one of those rare gems who can get in front of the lens with no need for direction. She can simply turn it on and let me worry about hitting the right camera buttons and making sure the lens cap is off. We knocked out this beach set with the help of my favorite So-Flo Hair Stylist/Makeup ar’teest – Amber Flowers. Enjoy!

Here we have a prime example as to why I love working with Amber… She ain’t afraid to get in the trenches! Visit again in a few days when I post photos from Melanie’s second look and indoor session. For the folks interested in gear, I was using the Large Scrim Jim from FJ Westcott… nothing else.

  1. Great job and great lighting! Do you mind sharing what kinf of lighting you are using.

    Thanks

  2. Thanks Khaled… The only lighting I used in this shoot was free (the sun). My srim was used to block when it was too harsh.

  3. If that’s the Westcott then that bugger is far from free :(

  4. But very nice shoots and glad to see new post coming up! Look forward to the next one.

  5. Haha, thanks Wally… and yes, you’re right about the Westcott :P but it’s totally worth it! Please stay tuned, I’ll be posting the other portion of this shoot within a few days. Writing it now!

  6. JOEY YOUR WORK IS AWESOME! WHAT WOULD YOU SAY IS YOUR FAVORITE CAMERA ON OUTDOOR SHOOTS SUCH AS THIS? GREAT SHOTS!

  7. Thanks! I used my Nikon D800 which might be overkill for some (at 36 MP)… but not if I aim to get these published. I’m a detail freak by nature, so it’s the perfect camera for me. I still love my D3s, however, which is much more rugged than the D800. I really wouldn’t have to be quite as cautious with the D3s around sand and water. With all that said, any current DSLR with a decent lens would be fine for this type of shoot.

  8. Great Job. I look forward to more posts.

  9. THANKS JOEY! AMAZING WORK! LOVE THE DETAIL THAT YOU BRING OUT OF THE PICS. I LOOK FORWARD TO MORE!

  10. At last.. ;)
And thanks for the BTS.. Hope you washed the stand after :)

  11. I noticed that you airbrushed out her stomach tattoo (visible in the last picture); why?

  12. Simply a personal preference… as I found it to be a distraction that didn’t add to the photos.
