In just a few weeks, I’ll be instructing alongside Anthony Neste at ”Shooting Outside the Box II” in Jacksonville, FL. This workshop is limited to 10 students only and is aimed toward advanced beginner to advanced intermediate photographers. Students must bring a DSLR camera but all other equipment will be provided. Classes will be geared toward the experience level of the students and will be held Friday night, all day Saturday, and Sunday morning. We’ll be shooting during the Saturday classes and all day Sunday after the morning class. We will have 5 professional models on Saturday and 6 models on Sunday.

A special thanks goes to my friend and Outbreak founder, David “Mex” Alvarado, for giving me an all-access invite to shoot the event. I would also like to thank my friend (and half-decent photographer), Josh Salcedo, for serving as my voice activated light stand.

I was recently made aware of an amazing event in which photographers and creators come together for one purpose: a cure. Images for a Cure was started in 2009 by the extremely talented, Orlando based photographer – Kristen Weaver. Photographers participate in the event by donating 100% of their time and session fees from one day of shooting to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. Last year, 239 photographers from 44 states and 3 countries helped to raise nearly $13,000. This year, Images for a Cure has raised the bar with a new fundraising target of $15,000. On Saturday, December 18th, I will make my contribution by offering a limited number of 1-hour head shot studio sessions at a very special rate. Each photo session will include the following:

• Professional hair and make-up
• (1) hi-res, fully retouched digital image file
• (1) 11″x14″ print
• Snacks, drinks and corny jokes provided by yours truly

Each session will cost $100 and all proceeds will go toward the 2010 goal. Frequently asked Question:

Q: Do I have to be a professional model?
A: No. The only requirement is that you have a head (preferably one that sits on a neck and shoulders).

Q: I’m shy… Did the models in the example images have to pose naked?
A: No. A tube top is recommended for this type of beauty shot, not your birthday suit.

Q: Speaking of birthdays, can you make me look 10 years younger?
A: Yes, but if you’re a 10-year old, I can’t make you look like a fetus.

Q: Can I purchase more than one retouched image from the shoot?
A: Yes. Additional retouched images can be purchased for $50 each and this money will also go directly toward the cause.

Q: Can these images be used for my modeling portfolio?
A: Of course. Here are a few more image usage suggestions:

• Make an ex-boyfriend jealous
• Show off to your virtual friends and family with a new facebook profile pic
• Have a good crying session 30 years from now when you look at the image and remember how youthful you once were

About a month ago, I ran into an old high school friend David Alarado, AKA “Mex”. It turns out that Mex happens to be the creator of Outbreak, one of the most anticipated B-Boy events in the US. This hip-hop festival/competition attracts many of the top b-boys and b-girls from around the world along with some well known graffiti artists and musicians. This year’s event, Outbreak 5, was held in Orlando, FL on December 12th, 2009… how convenient! There was no way I would have missed the opportunity to support an old acquaintance while snapping photographs of these amazing athletes/artists from a front row seat.
